ERA Postseason Awards and Week 1 of AAU

April 4, 2025

Michael Cooper- Jeff

With the high school basketball season now over we turn our attention to the postseason awards and AAU ball. Last week, the Indiana All Star team was named with 12 very worthy players. Definitely congratulations to all that made the team. Personally I feel there was a surprisingly obvious omission from the team. A two time state finals appearance and 1 championship, while also being a 2,000 point scorer at a 3A school apparently was not enough for SB St. Joe’s senior Chase Konieczny to be named to the team. With only 12 it’s hard to include everyone deserving, but a legit argument could be made for Konieczny as well as Gavin Betten from Manchester, who was a 2A state champion. We feel like we put together a good list of kids deserving of the All ERA teams. We ensure you that we’ve seen as much as anyone as much as we can and there’s no politics or bias here. We’re going name our First and Second Teams All State for each class as well as the top Big School/ Small School freshmen in the state. We’ll also take a look back at our preseason article and see what we got right and what we got wrong. And finally our All ERA Teams for the local southern Indiana area. Don’t forget the ERA all star game will be held @ Jeffersonville High School on May 28th. The ERA All Star game nominees were put out this past week as well. Big time congrats to all the juniors and seniors nominated. Jeff’s Michael Cooper and CAI’s Joshua Renfro were named captains and will draft their teams soon.

What we got right from our Preseason Article

  • The 4A state championship game between Jeffersonville and Fishers.
  • The 3A state championship game between Attucks and SB St. Joe’s.
  • Hauser was ranked #2 in the final 1A poll and was definitely slept on preseason by most of the state.
  • South Ripley spent some time @ #1 in 2A and we had them in the top 50 overall despite some pushback.
  • Charlestown had a big year and we feel our preseason top 45 ranking was justified.
  • We listed Clinton Prairie (1A runners up) as a sleeper/ under the radar team.
  • We listed Dane Caldwell (Silver Creek), Anthony Fresh (Charlestown), Jashawn Ladd (Ben Davis), Kamdon Partenheimer (Forest Park), Elijah King (SB St. Joe’s) as some of our “Breakout Year” players.
  • We correctly listed all exact 12 of the Indiana All Stars (we listed 13 and had Chase Konieczny but there’s only 12 on this year’s team)

What we got wrong from our Preseason Article-

  • We completely missed on Westfield who spent much of the year in the 4A top 10.
  • We listed Indy Lutheran as the #2 team in 1A and Marquette Catholic #4 and coming out of the 1A North. Both teams finished under .500
  • We did not have Clay City in our 1A top 10 and they spent half the year @ #1 while also not listing Manchester in our 2A top 10 and they won the 2A State title.
  • Had 4/6 Indiana Jr. Core All Stars. Missed on Kai McGrew (Lawrence North) and Luke Ertel (Mt. Vernon). Ertel is likely going into next year as the Mr. Basketball frontrunner.
  • We did not list University anywhere near our Top 50 or in our 2A Top 10. They were 2A state runners up.
  • Although we listed Brownstown @ #10 in 3A we underrated them and they spent most of the year in the top 5 and made it to semi state.
