The AAU season is in full swing and regardless of whether you think it’s good basketball or not it has become necessary in today’s game of high school ball. Locally and throughout the state kids are with various teams at different levels. The growth and improvement you see from kids in the winter is usually a result of what happens in the spring and summer months. In this write up I’m just going to give some news and notes while listing what I’ve seen the first 3 weeks of aau ball. I can only write about what I’ve seen so if you don’t see your name or team mentioned I just haven’t gotten to you yet. I was in Hamilton, Ohio a few weeks ago for the Midwest Mania and saw numerous very good teams there as well as @ Fishers, IN. for the Hoop Group Jam Fest. I got to catch a day of the Puma Circuit when it came to the Indy area and have streamed the EYBL. Just like in the high school season it’s impossible to see every game, but I’ve seen and heard from alot. Check out some news and notes recently and a 17U AAU Power Rankings (top 5). The Run and Slam is also going on next weekend in Fort Wayne and looking forward to seeing alot of these teams play.
Top 5 17U AAU Teams
1. Indiana Elite 3SSB
2. Indy Heat EYBL
3. Progeny UA Rise
4. Grand Park Premier PRO 16
5. IBC 3SGB
Indy Heat EYBL 17s
Indy Heat- 76 UPlay Canada- 68. A couple out of state kids were the leading scorers this game (Jayden Johnson and Marcus Johnson) but Avon’s Keriawn Berry had himself a game scoring 12 pts on 6/7 shooting and 5 boards. Lawrence North’s junior all star Brennan Miller put up 11 pts and 11 rebounds in the W.
Team United- 63 Indy Heat- 51. This game didn’t go quite the Heat’s way with only one player cracking double figures. Noblesville’s Justin Curry put up 11 pts. on three 3’s and a couple free throws. After having an efficient game in Game 1 Berry only attempted 4 shots and was held to 4 pts.
Indy Heat- 66 Nightrydas-63
Avon’s Keriawn Berry was the leading Indiana scorer with 12 points on 5/7 shooting.

Indiana Elite- 85 Young and Reckless- 65
Mt. Vernon’s Luke Ertel is continuing to look like next year’s frontrunner for Mr. Basketball. He can get hot in a hurry and looks for his shot alot more on this year’s team than when he was playing with IE 2025s. Ertel looked BIG time @ Midwest Mania a few weeks ago as well. When he gets going to his left, it’s game over. I’ve also been impressed with Gary 21st guard Terrence Hayes Jr. Although he’s a smaller guard he is long and crazy athletic. I’ve seen him rise up over multiple defenders in the games I’ve seen. He’s a highlight waiting to happen. All IE teams haven’t taken many losses so far in the first 3 weeks of play.
Indiana Elite- 106 TNBA Ohio HGSL- 77
Indiana Elite 16s
Indiana Elite- 80 Elevate UAA- 62
Not many can stop Fisher’s guard Jason Gardner Jr. from getting to the basket so it’s not completely Elevates fault that Gardner got to the rim at will in this game. Gardner is making a serious push for that #1 spot in the ’27 class that will come out later this summer/ fall. If he can show a consistent 3 point shot, he will get to pick whatever college he wants to in a couple years. He put up 27 pts in this game. Whenever things get sped up Silver Creek’s Brandon Hunter is there to calm his team down and set up the right play. Hunter is a capable scorer but prefers getting his teammates involved. He will have plenty of options to get involved with a loaded Dragons roster next season. The 6’3 true pg had 14 pts, 9 assists, 4 rebounds in this game.
Indiana Elite- 78 Moss Elite- 45
Indiana Elite- 90 MC Elite- HGAL- 50
Indiana Elite 15s
Indiana Elite- 68 Progeny- 53
In a game of possibly the top two 15U teams, this one was closer than the final score. There was big time talent on both sides of the ball here. For IE the obvious player of the game was 6’5 Noah Washington out of New Albany. Not only was he hitting 3s but getting to the basket and locking down on defense. The matchup with him and Amarion Leggett was fun to watch. Washington finished with 20 pts. Penn point guard Caleb Coolman took advantage of getting to his spots and looked to get his teammates involved solidifying him as a top 5 kid in the c/o ’28. This team is very talented and crazy athletic for a 15U team. Thier 2025 team made it all the way to the 3SSB finals last year and this group looks to have that same kind of potential going forward.
Indiana Elite- 99 Team Wildcat HGSL- 38
Indiana Elite- 60 MidPro Academy- 54
Hoosier State Prospects 17s
Hoosier State Prospects- 74 Illinois Mavericks- 70
I got to catch this game up @ Fishers on Saturday. Providence’s Elijah Fuller- Tucker put up his best game so far of the aau season with a 17 pt. 4 rebound game in the W. HSP also got really good games out of University’s Faisal Mohamud and Charlestown guard, Parker Odle. Mohamud put up a game-high 20 points while Odle had an all around game of 11 pts, 7 rbs, 5 assists, and 3 blocks. Both University and Charlestown look to be top 5 teams in their classes for the upcoming season.
Midwest Pumas- 65 Hoosier State Prospects- 55
Hoosier State Prospects- 79 MidPro West- 78
Faisal Mohamud with another BIG game going 6/12 from three scoring 28 pts., 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. Franklin’s Omari Thomas put up 15 points and 10 assists. Charlestown’s Parker Odle with a strong all around game of 17 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks. Ben Davis wing Jevon Perry 17 points and 13 rebounds.
Progeny UA Rise 17s
Progeny- 96 Team Buckets- 58
Progeny- 64 Vegas Elite EYBL- 55
Possibly the biggest eye opening win so far of the aau season was this W over Vegas. Silver Creek has an abundance of talent returning but possibly none better than 6’8 Dane Caldwell. His stock is blowing up and some high majors are beginning to take notice. In this game he put in 16 pts and 7 boards against elite competition. Princeton forward Edwin Holmes played a big role in the W also with 15 pts and 5 rbs.
Progeny-74 MidPro East- 62
Caldwell once again had himself a game putting up 17 pts and 5 rebounds in a W a couple of weeks back. Charlestown Pirate Anthony Fresh has been equally impressive so far this spring showing his athleticism and shot making. In this game Fresh scored a game-high 19 pts.
Progeny- 73 Webster- 43
Progeny UAA 15s
Progeny- 62 MidPro Academy- 58
Indiana Elite- 68 Progeny- 53
As I mentioned before, this game was full of talented players. Being from southern Indiana I don’t get a chance to see alot of Blackford’s 6’4 guard Amarion Leggett but there’s not many I was more impressed with today. You can tell he’s just scratching the surface of how good he can be with his height and athleticism for the guard position. He put himself in the top 5 convo (if he wasn’t already there) in the c/o ’28 for me. He showed some range and specializes in getting to the basket and finishing at the rim. Speaking of top 5s I can’t imagine there’s 5 better kids in the class of ’29 right now than Fall Creek’s Tristian Breeland. It’s appropriate he’ll be enrolling at Fishers H.S. in the fall because he looks like a carbon copy of Justin Kirby. What I came away most impressed with was his athleticism and on-ball defense. Decatur Central’s guard Quintyn Voltz also showed some impressive signs today. He locked down on defense getting a couple steals and showing he was unafraid going to the rim finishing over bigger defenders. He’s got a lot of confidence in his game whether his team is up or down.

GPP- 73 RYZE- 34
GPP- 64 Region Force- 32
This was the Mason Darrell game for GPP. The Crown Point guard showed why him and the Bulldogs should be considered for the top spot in all of Indiana next season. Darrell led the team with 17 pts. Westfield’s Drew Haffner put in 10 pts in the W for GPP who went 4-0 on the Puma Circuit this weekend. Plainfield’s Noah Smith and Noblesville’s Baron Walker have also been big time players and contributors this weekend.

IBC- 51 IBC Indiana Select- 47
IBC features two of the best combos in all of Indiana aau basketball. Two junior all stars, Jashawn Ladd from Ben Davis and Nick Shrewsberry @ SB St. Joe’s. Shrewsberry finished with a game high 21 points in their 74- 70 win on Sunday morning v. Kentucky Storm. Ladd put in 19 pts of his own. Expect these two to continue to be high scorers for their IBC team going forward on the Adidas Gold circuit.

ERA Elite- 70 Stars South- 49
ERA Elite- 66 Nike Select- 61
Jeffersonville’s Mason Longest playing much bigger than 6’2 getting 5 points and 10 rebounds v. Select’s 6’9 center.
Dreamchasers- 77 ERA Elite- 74
The boys from southern Indiana put in a good 3 win weekend down in Franklin, Tennessee . Austin’s Tracen Roush went off for five 3’s and totaling 25 points in a BIG W v. Nike Select. With New Albany pg Kyron Johnson out with an injury for the weekend Borden’s Wyatt Jones picked up the point guard spot and got everyone involved dishing out 7 assists to go along with 9 points.
